HEALTH GUARANTEE
Birds of Paradise Aviaries takes great pride in our handfed babies.
We will never knowingly deliver a baby that is not completely healthy. If a health concern should arise after delivery, we must be notified within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms and the bird(s) must be seen by an avian veterinarian within this same time frame or our guarantee is void. The health guarantee is also null and void if the legband on the bird is removed, regardless of reason.
We do guarantee all weaned babies to be free of pathogenic bacteria, viral disease and congenital hatch defects. Any problems are handled on a case by case basis. If a bird dies, it must be submitted to an avian veterinarian for necropsy and histopathology within 24 hours of death. It must be kept refrigerated, but not frozen. In no case can Birds of Paradise Aviaries be held responsible for the cost of examination, testing, histopathology or necropsy.
We do bacterial cultures in our nursery on chicks and will culture a baby at the least sign of potential problems. Doing cultures in house keeps our costs down, allows us to do many more cultures than might otherwise be done and insures you a healthy baby. We do not consider a slight growth of gram negative bacteria after shipping to be disease, but recognize that this is a stress-related reaction to being shipped.
We do recommend that you take your new baby to an avian veterinarian soon after delivery for a simple checkup. If you own other birds, isolation/quarantine of the new arrival is highly recommended.
We can assure you that our breeding stock is healthy. We have never had an incidence of polyomavirus, PBFD or other viral disease, nor of chlamydia among our breeding flock. We do operate under the concept of a closed aviary. Any new additions to the breeding flock are quarantined and are screened for polyomavirus, PBFD and chlamydia prior to introduction. Any death (adult or neonate) is submitted for necropsy and histopathology to our staff veterinarian.
